Can your Regurgitation go into your trachea without you noticing?

What im talking about is if you have acid reflux and regurgitate your food sometimes...is it possible for you to aspirate it into your lungs since it is an acid? is it possible for it to go into the trachea without you having the coughing reflex? and is it possible for the acid to burn the outside of your trachea?
